Virtual Gallery Art Exhibit MIRIAM GARAY FORONDA Artist Statement First generation, born in New York City of Honduran
ancestry, I am a self-taught artist. As "Plein Air" painter, portrait,
figurative and abstract artist, I enjoy painting portraits of indigenous
people in ceremony, landscapes of the Northern New Mexico area on
location and monochrome printing of abstracts. Dreams and the land
that surrounds me have inspired most of my work. The meditative
state that I evolve into when I paint adds life and vitality to
the work. What is inside of me, my spirit manifests the color and
images onto the canvas. The introduction of monochromatic prints
has given me a new dimension to the work, which in and of itself
is a splendor! Illimani is a sacred mountain in Bolivia. From the
beautiful and simple cane flutes that the people use comes songs
of beauty and prayer. A young boy who loves his Alf (Alien character) stuffed
doll. Keeping it with him, close to his heart, and his deep eyes
reflecting his youth and innocence to life A day of experimentation, free flow and not thinking moved my hands across the plate to create the images of crows playing in a field.
My children have been an inspiration to me. They carry
a wisdom within that I recognize and honor. The Bear and Jaguar
are medicine animals that have appeared in dreams, visions, and
transformations. The sacred smoke comes from my hands that I have
been gifted with to create many things of beauty sending the prayers
up and lifted higher on the wings of the eagles.
Our Lady of Guadalupe the sacred lady of this North
American Continent watches over the women going into the capilla
to pray. The candles burning represent the infinite life of prayer.
